An initial group
of six research projects ('fast-track' and 'commissioned') was approved for funding under the fast-track
procedure in December 2000. This was followed by a competition, which ended in
May 2001. A further 12 projects were selected, reflecting good geographical
coverage, a good balance
between small and large projects, disability and healthcare technology, and a
good spread among the
three approaches the Programme is trying to encourage:
Their implementation phase started in July 2001. Most projects will
receive 100 per cent of the funding requested. It is possible that a second
competition will be held.
