| Description |
This project seeks to increase knowledge concerning appropriate interventions for children with communication disabilities. It particularly focuses on seeking to validate an instrument that measures communication holistically and then use that instrument to evaluate a community-based intervention. Dissemination is planned through using the instrument elsewhere and in informing further research. The project will be located at the Centre for Geographical Medicine in Kenya. Both CICH and this centre have experience of managing other DFID projects. The project’s direct beneficiaries are the estimated 300 children with communication disabilities in Kilifi District. The project includes nine stages - modification and translation of instrument; piloting the instrument; identification of sample; development of intervention, collection of baseline data, implementation of intervention, data collection, data analysis, write up and dissemination. Dissemination will be done through a UK resource centre and website and through KEMRI in Kenya. |
