Field Disability and Health Care Technology: Adoption of a newly-developed technology Location India and Ghana
Description

The project aims to generate robust data on the economic consequences of uncorrected vision through two research assignments:

  • optometric research among a group of factory workers in India to establish a correlation between uncorrected vision, reduced productivity and unemployment

  • research on the link between uncorrected vision and drop-out rates from adult literacy classes in Ghana.

This data will be used to advocate for funding of further and wider-scale research to produce evidence to convince policy makers of the need to include vision correction in their agendas.

Local research will be conducted by Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India and the Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT), an affiliate of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL), the world’s largest international literacy NGO.

Budget £78, 350 Proportion from KaR All
